The United States and the European Union in the 2008 Financial Crisis: Two Responses and Two Results

Share

On Wednesday the 29th of October I had the opportunity to participate in a presentation at the Casa de América, in Madrid, sponsored by the Spanish Fulbright Association. The event was a debate exploring the different policies adopted by the United States and the European Union in response to the 2008-2009 Financial Crisis and the very different results achieved. I discussed the American response. Mr. Diego López Garrido, former MEP for the Spanish Socialist Party and former Secretary of State for the European Union between 2008 and 2011, undertook to discuss the EU’s response, while Mr. Carlos Álvarez Pereira, President of the Innaxis Foundation and Vice President of the Fulbright Association Alumni Network in Spain, was the moderator. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the organizers at the Casa de América and Fulbright Association for their kindness and courtesy, as well as to Messrs. López Garrido and Álvarez Pereira for their invitation and for the warm reception.
